2. Information We Collect
2.1 Profile & Account Data
When you create a FrenFr account: your name (or username), email address, date of birth (to verify age), profile photo, bio, interests, and any other information you choose to add. Your profile is only as detailed as you want it to be.
2.2 Connection & Matching Data
How you interact on the platform: frens you connect with, groups you join, messages you send (stored encrypted), and your in-app activity. This powers our matching algorithm.
2.3 Location Data
Approximate location (city/region level) is used for local fren suggestions. Precise GPS location is only accessed if you explicitly enable it for a specific feature. You can disable location at any time in settings.
2.4 Device & Usage Data
IP address, device type, operating system, browser, pages visited, and session duration. Used to keep the platform secure and to understand how features are used in aggregate.
2.5 Communications
Messages between users are stored encrypted. We do not read your messages unless required for safety investigations (e.g., reported harassment). Safety teams access only what is necessary to resolve a report.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Matching: Powering our fren discovery algorithm to surface compatible connections
- Platform operation: Running your account, messages, groups, and all features
- Safety: Detecting fake accounts, harassment, and policy violations
- Improvement: Analysing aggregate usage (not individual behaviour) to improve features
- Communications: Account notifications, security alerts, and (with consent) newsletters
- Legal compliance: Meeting our legal obligations under applicable law
4. Sensitive Categories
We may infer or collect information about interests that touch on sensitive categories (religion, health, sexuality, politics) only where you have explicitly shared this information on your profile. We never use inferred sensitive data for matching without your explicit consent. You can always remove this information from your profile.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. Limited sharing occurs only with:
- Other users: Your profile information is visible to other FrenFr members as you configure it in privacy settings
- Service providers: Cloud hosting, email delivery, fraud prevention — all under strict data processing agreements
- Law enforcement: Only when legally required via valid legal process
- Safety partners: In cases of imminent risk to life, with law enforcement
6. Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies for authentication, preferences, and aggregate analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Your choices from our cookie banner are respected. Types:
- Essential: Login sessions and security — cannot be disabled
- Analytics: Aggregated, anonymised product analytics to improve features
- Preferences: Remembering your in-app settings and configurations
7. Data Security
Messages are end-to-end encrypted. All data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). We maintain multi-factor authentication, access controls, regular penetration testing, and a dedicated security team.
8. Data Retention
- Active account data: retained while your account is active
- Deleted account data: removed within 30 days of account deletion request
- Message data: deleted 30 days after both parties delete their accounts
- Safety logs (reports, investigations): retained up to 2 years for legal purposes
- Financial records: 7 years per accounting regulations
9. Your Rights
You have the right to: access your data, correct inaccuracies, delete your account and data, download a copy of your data, object to processing, and withdraw consent. Submit requests via info@frenfr.com or in-app settings. We respond within 30 days.
10. Children's Privacy
FrenFr is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly allow minors to register. If we discover an account belongs to a minor, it is immediately removed. If you believe a minor has an account, please contact us at info@frenfr.com.
11. International Transfers
Data is primarily processed in the USA. Where data is transferred internationally, we apply appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses for users in the EU and UK.
12. Changes to This Policy
We notify users of material changes via email and in-app notification at least 14 days before changes take effect. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
